JAWS in a bottle

J        A          W        S

In an earlier post we featured the outstanding ship in bottle work of  Gabrielle Rogers and Stefan Auer (see Awesome Ships in Bottles post).  These new pictures are from one of their latest projects, a model from the the blockbuster (and one of my favorite) films, Jaws.   GREAT job Gabrielle!

See previous Jaws posting here.

The Shark!

Matt Hooper in his shark cage.

Quint and Brody figures.

The components for ships in bottles are made small enough to fit through the mouth of the bottle, where they are then assembled.  Here is the Orca's hull.

Very beautiful. I prefer this to the painted version.

The finished product:

Jane's take on the Spouter Inn

I recently attended presentation given by New York multi-dimensional artist Jane Freeman where she discussed dioramas she created for the Arrowhead Museum in Pittsfield MA (the museum of Herman Melville's home).  She presented two views of the Spouter Inn, as it is featured in Moby Dick.  She constructed these three-dimensional worlds from the descriptions provided in the novel.   You'll see that she was careful in presenting the scenes accurately, and also beautifully.

These descriptions below are from Jane's blog:

The dioramas were commissioned by the Arrowhead Museum in Pittsfield, MA.  The museum also asked Jane to create a replica of the room in which Melville wrote Moby Dick.  The photos of the model are by Jane, the photos of the actual rooms are courtesy of the museum.

Harvington Hall and its Secret Chambers

Readers of this blog have asked for more posts about secret chambers - so here you go.   Harvington Hall is an excellent example of a house with hidden chambers - in this case no less than seven priest holes.  And you have to love a house with a moat.

If you want to see more hidden chambers and secret passageways see an earlier posting from this blog:  Smuggling, Secret Chambers and Hidden Passageways.

Roll the Dice Baby

Here's a cool looking machine.  Bet it made a great sound too when the dice were thrown.
